14 Jan This will be a frustrating tax season!

The Treasury Department had a big press conference the other day warning of a “frustrating” tax season would be on the way this year.

At the end of last year’s filing deadline, the IRS had over 35 million unprocessed returns. That means about one in six taxpayer’s filed returns, had yet to entered into their system. No refunds on the way, but tax bills are still coming!

The IRS’s internal watchdog, the National Taxpayer Advocate said its “the most challenging year taxpayers and tax professionals” have experienced. “I am deeply concerned about the upcoming filing season,” Erin M Collins added. “Paper is the IRS’s kryptonite, and the agency is still buried in it.”

We’ve had hundreds of calls from clients venting their infuriation with the IRS, complaining about not receiving a refund or a installment agreement that isn’t up and running yet. Worse yet, many taxpayers are receiving collection notices for taxes paid for last summer when the IRS cashed the taxpayer’s check, but they are still receiving collection notices or levy threats!

Can I do Something?

You cannot just call them and demand they bump you to the front of the list of the tens millions of taxpayers waiting on the IRS to follow up on tax returns, payments and letters. An IRS call center employee told us they had mail stacked up on tables and in storage rooms. In some offices, they have semi-trailers full of unopened mail. If you write a letter, you can bet its six months before its even opened at this point. If you’re calling us to work magic on delay, we hate to say it, but there’s not much we can do.

Great….just great…

Yep, we agree. If you get a levy or lien notice for something you already paid or submitted, we can file for an appeal hearing with an actual human and stop the clock until we can get a real hearing. If that’s your situation give us a call at 614-524-4888 and we can help.

We work closely with you to handpick a solution for your unique tax situation.
